Long Live My Daughter’s Love for Taylor Swift

When Finley was a teeny tiny, she would cry.

Shocking, I know.

Somehow, 26-year-old me forgot that babies cried until I had one. I remember crying with her as she cried, both of us unable to express what was wrong. Motherhood is fun like that.

And then, one day as I was driving around hoping she would calm down, I played “Paper Rings” by Taylor Swift.

The crying stopped.

And so I tried again the next time she cried, and it worked. From then on, when I could not figure out why Finley was crying, I’d play Paper Rings. I don’t think it always stopped the crying, but it always lightened the mood, so that’s a win in my book.

As she grew older Finley expanded her music taste to include more of Taylor’s Discography. When she was two, Finley had a limited number of words, including “mine.” So I played her Mine, and it was an instant hit because she could say that word.

As Finley’s 4th birthday rolled around, the Eras Tour had just begun. And so Finley asked for a Taylor Swift themed birthday party.

Our first step was to recreate all of the album covers and compile them into an Eras Tour invite.

It was super fun finding things around the house that happened to work perfectly for each album. After the invite, I got to work planning the details.

Time: Morning. I will stand by it until the end of time: morning birthday parties are the best—fun fun fun, nap.

Location: Grandma’s Park (fenced in and always empty—major plus)

And now comes the fun part. Decor.

As far as balloons, tablecloths, and paper goods, we went with white, purple, pink, and blue. This gave the whole party a Lover feel. We sprinkled purple glitter in the middle of the white tablecloths, placed these adorable disco balls (Mirrorballs) around the plate settings, and called it good.

To make the street sign, I found a spare piece of wood in our garage, painted it green, and cut Cornelia St. out with white vinyl.

I tragically DIY’d a not so sturdy disco ball piñata by using paper mache and iridescent “tissue paper.” (Learn from my mistake: just buy the dang piñata)

And then came the signs.

All of these signs can be purchased in my shop or on Etsy.

So make the friendship bracelets” + Beads & String

We of course had to have friendship bracelets. We used glow-in-the-dark beads and letter beads. I made several in advance that said “hbd fin.”

I like shiny things but I’d marry you with candy rings” + Ring Pops

It feels like a perfect day to dress up like hipsters” + RED heart sunglasses

You can find those here

You made your mark on me, a golden tattoo” + Gold Unicorn Temporary Tattoos

You can find these adorable tattoos on Amazon. We didn’t even use half of them, so you will have unicorn tattoos for days and days!

It is a daily struggle for me not to buy more cats’-Taylor Swift” + Kitten Loveys

I found all of these loveys at thrift stores for like, $5 total. I then Oxicleaned, washed (2Xs+), and freshened up with Downey so that partygoers could “adopt one” and take it home.

“RED Drink (Finley’s Version)” + Fruit Punch

“Lavender Haze” + Purple Chocolate Dipped Pretzels

We used this recipe from Mindy’s Cooking Obsession. Instead of milk chocolate, we used white chocolate & purple food coloring.

And of course we had to have a purple, pink, and blue cake!

All in all, Fin was over in love with everything at the party. Some references went over her head, but not enough that she couldn’t enjoy it. I think the adults enjoyed it more!

I had the time of my life [celebrating] with you!
